Theology on the Lighter Side – Why didn’t Eve ever have a bad hair day? – Because she didn’t have to worry about humidity in Eden!
And why did Eve not worry about having a bad hair day … because many believe the first instance of rain came during the Great Flood of Noah’s time.
Hebrews 11:7a - By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household.
Imagine building the ark on faith! Of course hearing God’s voice audibly can certainly create “reverent fear.”
Reverence is defined by Webster as showing “honor or respect.” That is easily understood from the context of the event. But what about the “fear?” Why was Noah fearful? It could have been a fear to protect “his household.” Equally likely, it was a fear of God’s wrath on mankind.
Genesis 6:13 - And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Do we, in America, hold a “reverent fear” of God today? Even as Biblical Christians, do we take God’s commands seriously, or do we merely rest on the grace He offers through His Son?
Proverbs 9:10 - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
There should be a balance in the life of the Christian: to know the love of God but to never underestimate His authority and discipline. The Lord is shaping and molding us into His image.
2 Corinthians 3:18a - And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.
And we have many rough edges that need smoothing. And we cannot hide our thoughts or actions from God. He sees our sinful nature played out daily.
Romans 7:22-24 - For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
Jesus is the one who can “deliver [us] from this body of death.” We just need to ask Him to do so, from the heart.
