Why did Moses cross the Red Sea?

To get to the other side!

Theology on the Lighter Side – Why did Moses cross the Red Sea? – To get to the other side!

The story of Moses is one of fear, humility, stubbornness, leadership, wisdom, miracles, and, most importantly, a demonstration of the hand of God. Backed up with the Israelites against the Red Sea with the Pharaoh’s army about to overtake them, Moses was told by God …

Exodus 14:15-16 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving! Pick up your staff and raise your hand over the sea. Divide the water so the Israelites can walk through the middle of the sea on dry ground."

And the sea parted for the Israelites and fell back onto the Egyptian soldiers. The Lord protected His chosen race.

Deuteronomy 7:6 - “For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth."

The Jews of the Old Testament were certainly not all devout, seeking God … but they were His called out people … and many believe they are the same today. However others see Christians as the New Testament chosen ….

1 Peter 2:9 – But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
