In the Old Testiment the Jews offered lambs and other sacrifices as a symbolic penance for their family’s sins. Jesus is the permanent sacrifice for mankind. He was fully man and is fully God. Living a sinless life, He died on the cross as a substitute for our sins so that we could have the Holy Spirit as our Counselor on earth and look forward to an eternity in Heaven (1 Cor. 2.9).
