Theology on the Lighter Side – What’s the best part about Heaven? – The unlimited grace period!
Webster defines a “grace period” as “a period of time beyond a due date during which a financial obligation may be met without penalty or cancellation.”
The Problem
All of humanity on earth, from Adam forward, has had an obligation to live without sin or else pay the consequences. And, according to Scripture, we have all failed in that effort …
Romans 3:10-12 - None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.
Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
And that sin is so broad and all-encompassing that we cannot possibly live a life that is free from bad thoughts and behaviors.
Galatians 5:19-21 - Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The penalty for our sin is spiritual death and, at the end of our earthly lives, eternal separation from God.
The Solution
However, while we remain on this earth, God has offered us a solution to avoid having to pay for our bad thoughts and actions. And that offer comes through His love for us and a willingness to offer mankind an “unlimited grace period.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
God offered His Son, Jesus Christ, as a perfect sacrifice, paying the price as a substitution for us paying for our own sins. And it is unlimited grace … but only if we accept Him as both our Lord and Savior, repenting of our sins and asking Christ to come into our lives, to forgive us of our sins, and to save our souls.
Romans 10:9 - If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
It is truly that simple, from the heart, but also that profound. An unlimited grace period in this life and Heaven-bound in the next.
