Theology on the Lighter Side – What time of day was Adam created? – A little before Eve!
1 Timothy 2:13 - For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
Complementarianism is the Biblical premise that men and women are created equally, but differently. It is supported by verses such as Genesis 1:26-27 and Ephesians 5:21-33. And, of course, there are the verses that create all the controversy as applies to the church (1 Timothy 2:11-3:7, Titus 2:2-6, 1 Timothy 2:12) that pastors try unsuccessfully to avoid.
Every human ever born is different from all the rest of us. That is true not just in fingerprints but in personality, strengths and weaknesses, susceptibility to various sins, body type, thought process, and many other inherent characteristics. Our differences are further enhanced by how we were brought up and the unique experiences we have had in the world.
All of humanity falls within a range on every single attribute we can imagine. For example, there are women who are much stronger and faster than men. And, there are men who are much more of a motherly influence on the kids than some women. However, looking broadly at the averages of each sex, God did clearly group us differently as male and female beyond simply biology. We can, of course, choose to ignore that dichotomy by observing the extremes of any attribute if we so choose. But the Bible is clear that God’s ideal comes from a complementary balance between spouses in raising a family.
