Providing insight on the intersection of contemporary issues and theology, based on a Biblical Christian Worldview.

“What might you tell [the lost] based on fact and experience…”

that would lead them back to Christianity?

that would lead them back to Christianity?

Quote Source – Medium Reader

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – This was a question posed by a reader directed to those who seemed to have been saved and subsequently have fallen away. Their point was that, in their experience, many atheists are former “believers” who have lost their faith.

My Response

To your deeper point, sadly, after 10k+ responses to comments on Medium and the fact that I was drawn to Christ through apologetics, my belief today is that it is faith, not “facts and experience” that ultimately sets the seeker on a path to salvation. Presenting evidence of miracles, prophesies fulfilled, preservation of Scripture, archeological evidence, general revelation, etc. no longer convinces 99% of folks over the age of 16 … unless one is drawn to facts as a way of finding faith (as I was).

Being involved in chaplaincy ministry in the workplace for over 25 years prior to retirement, my view is that it is in times of crisis (for adults) where one is forced to reflect on the deeper meaning of life and the need to trust something (Someone) outside of a failing humanity … it is only then that facts become real and faith is born.

Conclusion

Witnessing to peers (adults) is often a matter of prayer, building relationships, and waiting for a divine appointment in the midst of a crisis to share the love and acceptance of Christ. Don’t beat people over the head with their sin, using the Bible as a cudgel. Love on your neighbor and wait for an opportunity to care for them. But when that time comes, don’t be afraid to speak beyond the point of a secular good friend. Speak as an ambassador of Christ. Loving as a “friend” helps on this earth. Loving as an ambassador is eternal.
