Theology on the Lighter Side – What do you call a priest who becomes a lawyer? – A father-in-law!
Webster defines the word priest as, “someone who is authorized to perform the sacred rites of a religion especially as a mediatory agent between humans and God.”
Note the words “mediatory agent between humans and God.” One of the many false teachings within Roman Catholic (RC) theology is the belief that there needs to be a formal intermediary between God and man. Jesus makes it clear in both His actions and teachings that is not the case. During His time on earth, much of His anger was directed at the religious elite of the day (Matthew 23:5) who added to the Word of God. The same remains true today with RC theology placing their traditions on an equal footing with God’s Word.
Biblical Christians have direct access to God and do not need an earthly priest. We pray directly to the Father and the Son through the Holy Spirit and not to or through dead human saints or current priestly leaders. In fact, all saved Christians are priests …
