Theology on the Lighter Side – What did the wife say when her husband left the lights on again? – “Jesus is the Light, not the lamp!”
Satan has been leased temporary access to the title deed of the world (2 Corinthians 4:4), which is why he could offer it to Jesus if Christ had chosen to follow the evil one while in the desert (Matthew 4:9). Our world is in darkness as a result of Satan, his demons, and our own sin nature. However, in the midst of that gray, there is light which came from Jesus and remains a light within the born-again believer.
Jesus as the Light
John 8:12 - Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 1:4-5 - In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 9:5 - As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
As Ambassadors for Christ, we are now the Light
Matthew 5:14-16 - You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Ephesians 5:8-9 - For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true).
We need to show that light, the Good News of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, wherever and however we can.
