Providing straightforward analysis on the intersection of contemporary issues and theology, based on a Biblical Christian Worldview.

“We should not be afraid to talk about Hell.”

But we should choose carefully when to broach the subject.

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – So many of our atheist responders get hyper critical when mentioning the Hell side of eternity. They call it fear mongering and frankly most Christian folks, even anonymously on Medium, stay away from the downside of eternity. However, one just needs to read the Bible to be reminded that the reality of unforgiven sin is part of who God is, a righteous judge, regardless of whether humanity can understand, much less accept that truth.

Matthew 7:22-23 – On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

There is a balance in Scripture between discussions of Heaven and Hell, good and evil. However, we, as Christians, tend to be fearful talking about the dark side of human destiny, which ironically is exactly what the evil one wants us to ignore. At the same time, if our focus is on God’s love rather than Satan’s hate, perhaps there SHOULD be a stark imbalance in our evangelistic efforts.

When engaging in a divine, Godly appointment with someone, it is rare that “you will burn in Hell for eternity if you don’t accept the love of God and His Son,” is an effective evangelistic strategy. So, we need to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves in determining what to say to those seeking an answer to the eternal matter of faith and hope…. and judgement.

There is an ongoing debate on the statement, “Jesus talked more about Hell than Heaven.” What is significant to glean from that esoteric arguing is not the answer, but more the fact that Christ did not shy away from the downside of eternal life. As we prayerfully obey the Holy Spirit in talking with unbelievers and baby Christians about eternity, to ignore Hell entirely (when pressed) is to ignore our full faith and hope in Heaven, since the afterlife is a binary choice.
