Scripture
Our verse for today comes from Mark 14:13, ” So He sent two of His disciples, telling them, ‘Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him.’ “
Background
Many of you know that I changed jobs within my company some time ago. And if you knew that, then you probably also knew that it was an extremely overwhelming transition from old job to new for several reasons. The first was that I had a whopping four hours of training with my predecessor before he left our organization. The second was that we were in the midst of going through one of our annual audits, and I knew absolutely nothing about how to help the ones who were being asked to provide the information to the auditors. The final reason was that on the day that I began my new position, the lady that worked for me and who I anticipated leading that department and growing into my position, turned in her resignation. Fortunately, things did not remain too bleak for too long. My boss was very patient with me as I continually strove to get up to speed, and those around me have willingly done the yeoman’s work to appease the audit team. But critical to my survival was the return of the lady who used to work for me. One month after leaving, she agreed to come back, having realized how much better a fit it was for her here than at her new job.
Application
Now, God could have told me right away that the audit would go well in spite of my inexperience. And He most definitely knew that my employee would come back in a month to take one of my jobs off of my plate. But He didn’t. I struggled and suffered and prayed and prayed. And before I knew it, I was right here where I am today. Jesus could have told Peter and John to go to 100 Cedar Street and prepare the Passover at that location. But He sent them on a faith journey to follow a stranger with a jar of water to an unknown site. It required more of them and produced more from them, and that is generally the way Jesus works. So do not fret, or fret much less than you ordinarily do, and let faith have its way with you. Jesus knows the way, is the way, and will take you along the way.
Charge
As we seek Him today, strengthen your faith by exercising it when all looks cloudy and unclear. Do not worry about what you may or may not know.
