Share Your Living Water

Today, set your heart on simply getting to know our Lord more. Ask God to draw you closer to Him and see what effects that has on you and others.

Today, set your heart on simply getting to know our Lord more. Ask God to draw you closer to Him and see what effects that has on you and others.

Scripture

Our verse for today comes from John 4:10, ” Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ” Give Me a drink, ” you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.’ “

Background

If you knew the gift of God. Many of us would be offended if someone spoke to us as if we didn’t know God’s gift of salvation. If they suggested that if we knew His gift and the One who made it all possible, then we would be a certain way or do a certain thing, we would be taken aback that our spiritual condition was being called into question. No one can know the heart of another, so how dare someone else call us out regarding our faith and its sincerity. So let’s turn it around then. Since you know the gift of God and the One who died and rose again, you are doing this and sharing that and asking for this and receiving that. Your life is displaying wondrous somethings and you are growing and changing and improving. Since you know the gift of God, it’s only right that there are plenty of this and thats to fill out the list.

Application

For a life that’s built around faith and the unseen, following Jesus certainly seems to be full of concrete acts and tangible results. Jesus Himself took away much of the uncertainty that we believers today seem to wrestle with. He said go and do. He said ask and receive, seek and find, knock and it will be opened. But doing those things according to His will and way necessitates knowing. We must know the gift and the Giver. Casual acquaintances don’t get it done. If we know our Savior, then we know what we can ask Him for. If we know our Savior, then we know what we are supposed to do. If we know our Savior, then our faith becomes sight, our walk becomes a victory dance, and our lives become living sacrifices. If you know Him, how well do you know Him? I’m not very proud of my answer. Too often I feel like the Israelites, who walked under God’s mighty hand yet turned their backs on Him at the slightest sign of resistance or greener pastures. My life is a fairy tale compared to so many who have so little, but I can get aggravated over nothing with the best of them. Since we do know Him, let’s all do our part to know Him more.

Charge

As we seek Him today, set your heart on simply getting to know our Lord more. Ask God to draw you closer to Him and see what effects that has on you.
