Words of Wisdom from the Babylon Bee – My take on the matter …
According to Christianity.com, there are 450 English translations at some level of completeness of Scripture currently available. There have been around 900 various translations since the 16th century. Wikipedia and GotQuestions.com offer a list of approximately fifty, and BibleHub.com has 26 complete English Bible translations online for research.
Guinness World Records estimated, back in 2021, that over the last 1500 years there have been between five and seven billion copies of the Bible published. Again, Wikipedia weighs in by stating that “the most popular book in the world is the Bible.” Finally, Crosswalk.com wrote an article in December of 2023 that concluded, “The best-selling book in 2023 was the Bible, but you likely won’t find it on any best-seller lists.”
According to Barna, “88% of Americans own a Bible, and they own an average of 4.4 copies of it.” Further, “six out of ten Americans who have no faith or who identify as atheists own a Bible.”
So what’s the point?
- If God wrote the book, why are there so many translations?
- Why is it the most popular book ever printed every year for hundreds of years?
- Why are there so many Bibles in the hands of atheists and agnostics?
- Why do so many Christians have Bibles but don’t read them?
So what’s the answer?
If you are a born-again believer, saved by God’s grace through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, you know the answers to these questions.
If you are a seeker looking for an answer to life, start reading from Matthew using the New Living Translation, and you will find all the answers and much more within the pages.
If you are antagonistic toward the love letter and rule book God has offered to mankind, then, respectfully, you are not interested in answers to these questions.
