How do we know Peter was a rich fisherman?

By his net income.

Theology on the Lighter Side – How do we know Peter was a rich fisherman? By his net income.

Jesus gathered apostles, not from the rich, but from the poor, with one exception, Matthew, the tax collector. There were no celebrities or CEO’s in His small band of rebels.

Luke 9:58 – And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

This is not the view of those who support the Prosperity Gospel (details here).

Luke 12:15 – And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

In fact the burden of excessive wealth on earth presents a barrier for eternity.

Matthew 19:24 – Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
