“Has God ever spoken to you?”

The Lord speaks to all Biblical Christians.

The Lord speaks to all Biblical Christians.

Quote Source – Shannon Scott

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – If you have read the Bible, you have had God speak to you. There are at least four ways God speaks to believers.

(1) Quoting from Billy Graham, “God speaks to those who belong to Him through His holy Word … authors of Scripture … more than 3,000 times said, ‘Thus saith the Lord.'” The Bible offers the born-again Christian one method of better understanding Him through special revelation.

(2) However, God also speaks to all of mankind through the beauty and complexity of nature, referred to as general revelation ….

Romans 1:20 – For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

(3) God has also spoken to us through His Son, Jesus Christ who was fully God and fully man, lived a perfect, sinless life on earth and took on the penalty of the sins of those who have faith sufficient to accept Him as their Savior and Lord.

Hebrews 1:2 – In these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

(4) Finally, God speaks through the Holy Spirit who is the Counselor, living within the heart of every believer.

1 Corinthians 2:10-16 These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God…. So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

The set of verses above end with a clear understanding that God speaks to the saved but the lost are “not able to understand” God because His Words are “spiritually discerned.”

The reason born-again believers “have the mind of Christ” is because God, in fact, does speak to us through the Bible, through nature, through Christ, and through the Holy Spirit.
