Great Britain Youth see a Theistic Resurgence

Since August of 2022, there has been a marked increase in the belief of a higher power, referred to as theism. Below is a static picture from an interactive chart (YouGov UK) documenting the trend of those who recognize some form of God or gods (the green line) from only 16% in August of 2021, to 37% in August of 2025. Conversely, atheism decreased from 49% to 32% over the same time period.

The resurgence of at least a theistic belief by 18-24 year-olds has also been seen in increased church attendance.

According to a survey conducted by the Bible Society polling those in England and Wales, church attendance of at least once per month in 18-24 year-olds has risen from 4% in 2018 to 16% in 2024.

And, what is perhaps equally encouraging, (according to another YouGov survey), this increase in overall church attendance runs counter to the continuing increase in unfavorable ratings associated with the Church of England, which had a favorability rating dropping from 32% to 25% between November of 2024 and February of 2025.

Perhaps, these are signs that Gen Z’s are increasingly aware that there is more to life than the natural world… that there exists a supernatural one as well. The next step is to offer the Good News from a Biblical Christian worldview… to be a light in the darkness.
