God Keeps All that are His

Enjoy the peace and thrill of being one of God's, known intimately by Him and specifically chosen by Him.

Scripture

Our verse for today comes from John 6:39, ” This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. “

Background

” I’m a hoarder. ” My wife confessed that to me recently after I commented that a few more feet of our bedroom floor had disappeared beneath something that belonged somewhere else. I didn’t realize at the time that there is a television show called ” Hoarders ” that she must have been referring to. So I watched a couple minutes of it, and the clip I saw had the host of the show walking through a house, maneuvering between and around six-feet high piles of stuff that covered the floors of an already-furnished home. I stopped watching before the video ended for fear of getting sick at the sight of all the bags, boxes, and junk that had the house busting at the seams. Now, by no means is my wife that bad off. We do have a couple rooms that have accumulated more than they should, but none of it includes piles of broken kitchen appliances or items fit for the dump. But there is an admitted weakness in the area of getting rid of things that we really don’t need.

Application

And in all the best ways, this reminds me of the security we have in our salvation in Christ. God is a hoarder of the best kind, adding to His number all who are willing to become a part of His family, to take up permanent residence in His home. But we are not the piles of broken picture frames and worn-out shoes that get stepped on just to get over the bigger piles ahead. He does not toss us on a heap with the rest of His cracked and chipped collectibles. And neither does He intend to one day go through and throw out what he has been gathering. He still knows us today like He did the day He saved us. He isn’t planning a huge garage sale to get rid of all of us who fail or disappoint or have passed our prime. He hasn’t lost track of who we are, where He put us, or why He saved us. It is the will of His Father that we belong to Him, and that can never change. He will not lose us or give us back. His hoarding is based on His love, not on some sickness where He cannot let things go. He will not. He gave His life for us. And there’s no undoing that, no matter how many are gathered around His throne.

Charge

As we seek Him today, enjoy the peace and thrill of being one of God’s, known intimately by Him and specifically chosen by Him. Approach God today with the confidence that He loves you and has a plan for you.
