Finally, They’re Playing An Old Hymn In Church…

Wait, False Alarm, They've Added A Weird New Chorus

Words of Wisdom from the Babylon Bee—My take on the matter …

Pastors and staff are constantly trying to balance Sunday morning engagement with sound theology in the midst of varying demographic traditions. As many churches atrophy in finances and attendance, these challenges become more intense. Some older and more rural congregations hold to traditional choirs, hymns, and even the dusty organ. Others, often larger churches, have long since transferred to a praise band.

Finally, there are the midsized majority of 100-300 attending congregations that try to find a middle ground. Sometimes it takes the form of an opening praise song and a closing hymn. At other times it is a remix of an old hymn that sadly frustrates the older crowd and also disappoints the younger generations.

We all know the answer to this dilemma, but our sin nature often gets in the way. The point is that we come to church on Sunday morning not to be entertained, but to worship God. That desire should come from the Holy Spirit that lives within the Biblical Christian and not the physical environment we find ourselves in.

When you are critical of what worship songs or remixes are chosen for your Sunday service, remember that you are not the audience; God is.
