Subtitle: Ask God to show you what you are believing in. And if necessary, ask Him to reacquaint you with the real Jesus.
Excerpt: The blind man healed by Jesus faced a choice between the world of his parents, who feared excommunication for acknowledging Jesus, and the world where Jesus was worth believing in. He chose to believe in Jesus, prioritizing Him over social status and acceptance. The message encourages knowing the real Jesus and choosing to worship Him above all else.
Scripture
Our verse for today comes from John 9:36, “He answered, ‘And who is He, sir, that I may believe in Him?'”
Background
My Bible is 2,010 pages long. And within those thousands of pages are numerous descriptions and titles of Jesus. There are lofty, majestic phrases like “Messenger of the Covenant” and “Wonderful Counselor” that come from the Old Testament prophets, to the simple words of “Light” and “Word” from the New Testament gospels. And throughout the stories that make up the history of man, God’s Word clearly pictures man as a being made to worship. Whether worshipping their creator, man-made idols, or unknown gods, man’s heart was made to be given away. And the same holds true for the blind man whom Jesus healed by putting clay on his eyes. When his sight was given to him for the very first time, he was given eyes to see a world that presented him with two distinct choices. The first was the world of his parents. They belonged to the synagogue, and the Jews of the synagogue had agreed that anyone confessing that Jesus was the Christ would be excommunicated. So his parents didn’t dare to speak up on their son’s behalf when questioned by the Jews, since testifying for Jesus the sinner would cost them their reputation.
Application
Now, when Jesus later found the seeing man, the Jews had kicked him out for trying to teach them the truths of God. And Jesus asks him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?” The blind man, now seeing, tells Jesus to show Him to him so that he can believe. And Jesus then introduces Himself to him. And the man believes. He believes in the One they said was a sinner. He believes in the One they said did not keep the Sabbath. He believes in the One who got him excommunicated. He believes in the One who stopped and talked to him, and he believes in the One who healed him. The real Jesus, majestic and simple. The seeing man chose the second choice. He chose the world where Jesus was worth it all. He chose Jesus over church. He chose a Savior over social status and acceptance. He was ready to worship, and he chose to worship the One who loved him first. So, know the real Jesus, that you may believe in nothing else.
Charge
As we seek Him today, ask God to show you what you are believing in. And if necessary, ask Him to reacquaint you with the real Jesus.
