Words of Wisdom from the Babylon Bee – Despite Susan Saying ‘God Bless You’ Every Time Someone Sneezes … – Coworkers Still Haven’t Asked About Her Faith
There are three broad types of Evangelism –
- Lifestyle – Trying to live a good life around the lost so this will somehow draw them to God.
- Confrontational – Beating people over the head with the Bible while threatening eternal punishment for those who reject God.
- Relationship – Building relationships with the lost so that they seek you out for advice, and you have the opportunity to share that the source of your strength and wisdom is a relationship with Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Lifestyle evangelism does not save anyone in and of itself. However, it can be a precursor for Relationship evangelism. It functions as an attraction in your testimony but should not be considered evangelism in isolation.
Confrontational evangelism is rarely successful on an individual basis, but can have its place in public sermons and street evangelism. It is important to remember Paul’s point to the Corinthian church in …
1 Corinthians 9:22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.
Relationship is an amalgam of Lifestyle and Confrontational evangelism. As Christians we need to demonstrate a living testimony (lifestyle) of God’s intervention in our lives, recognizing that we do remain sinners, but have the power through the Holy Spirit to resist sin. Further, we need to be sensitive to the divine appointments God provides to build relationships with unbelievers by loving and caring for the needs of others. Finally, we need to be unafraid, and in love, even confrontational, by sharing the source of our compassion and wisdom, offering the Good News to all who are willing to listen.
2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
