Church Outreach Opportunities

Church outreach is likened to a missionary trip, with the hope of reaching out to people of diverse backgrounds, much like Paul did with Titus.

Scripture

Our verse for today comes from Titus 1:4, “To Titus, a true son in our common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.”

Background

We hear a lot in church about all the nations, tongues, tribes and peoples one day worshipping our Savior in heaven. But to show how much work there is yet to be done, statistics are often quoted regarding how many thousands of distinct “people groups” and millions of individuals around the globe there are who have never been contacted by any sort of gospel message. And that shouldn’t be surprising, for there are also statistics pointing out what a low percentage of believers there are who go out on missions, and how few of our dollars that we make actually get contributed for the worldwide spread of the gospel. Within our fellowship, as well as many others across this land, there is a strong emphasis to reach the lost internationally for Jesus. And within our fellowship, like all those others, some people take this more seriously than others. It’s no different than any other teaching or discipline, some apply it wholeheartedly to their walk with the Lord, while others do not.

Application

Paul was one who heard the call. And as he went on his mission trips, he was blessed to be used mightily by God. And one of his disciples was Titus, a Gentile. In fact, Titus was such a follower of Jesus that Paul called him a true son in our common faith. This Gentile, part of a people group who had never heard the gospel, responded with such faith that Paul called him his son. Could Paul have encountered Titus at a gathering similar to a church outreach event? Were they just two people at the same place at the same time, one with the love of God in his heart, and the other in desperate need of a Savior? Church outreach events are nothing short of a missionary trip brought by God to our own doorstep. There will be Gentiles of many races and people groups all gathered in one place. Our prayer should be that we could reach out beyond ourselves, beyond our comfort zone, and see a field full of Tituses needing something they may not even realize. Ask God to use you to introduce a son to His Father.

Charge

As we seek Him today, pray that any barrier or prejudice your heart has known will be left for Jesus to deal with. Ask our Father to use you to grow His family that will worship Him forever.
