Words of Wisdom from the Babylon Bee – Do you pray with your family Saturday night for a spiritual experience on Sunday morning? Is it a struggle to get the family ready and in the car without raising your voice with the kids? Is the drive to church a time of thoughtful consideration on Biblical beliefs or just general banter? Do you go to adult Sunday School or does your church not even have that available? Are you in the service in time to hear the announcements in order to know how you can participate in activities the following week? Do you engage in the worshipful music experience by really listening to the lyrics, carefully prepared to meld with the message? When the pastor delivers the sermon he has prepared and rehearsed and prayed over during the week, are you listening or wondering what lunch will look like or the upcoming game on TV?
What is church supposed to be like if God said, “On this rock (Christ, in my view) I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18)? Does the experience described above suggest such a powerful institution that “the gates of hell” will be overcome by going to “church” to worship the Creator of the universe with other “like-minded” believers? Or is Sunday morning supposed to be more than that?
Ephesians 2:20-21 – built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.
Is Jesus Christ the cornerstone of your church, a holy temple of the Lord? If not, is that the church that is failing or your walk with Christ?
