Christian Universalism

We are not so far from a universal view of Christianity as we might think.

We are not so far from a universal view of Christianity as we might think.

You Have to be Kidding

Believe it or not there are those who call themselves Christians and also believe in the universal salvation of all mankind. Simply put from their official website (details here)…

“By our definition, Christian Universalism is the belief that Christ’s life, death, and resurrection applied to every man, woman, and child that ever lived and guaranteed the redemption and restoration of the entire created order.”

Wikipedia validates their existence by saying…

“Christian universalism is a school of Christian theology focused around the doctrine of universal reconciliation – the view that all human beings will ultimately be saved and restored to a right relationship with God.”

Christian Universalism Theology in brief

Their basic position is that even those that do not know of God or Christ, or those who intentionally reject the Trinity, are forcibly brought under the blood of Christ for redemption of their sins by the power and authority of our Creator. Since He is omnipotent, He has the ability to overrule mankind’s ignorance or rejection.

How Great is That

To the casual Christian, this is the ultimate solution to the dilemma of salvation. One can reject all the passages in the Bible that would seem to enforce God’s righteousness and pending judgement for the sins of man by acknowledging that the Bible is a flawed document.

As with so many other theological worldviews which hold a grain of truth within a mountain of heresy, Christian Universalism functions today just like the serpent and the forbidden fruit did thousands of years ago….

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?… But the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die.'” – Genesis 3:1,4

No One Believes in Christian Universalism

No one has heard of this term so, logically, these folks are a scattered group that hold no sway in Biblical Christian theology… right?

Consider the public comments from Pope Francis in September of 2024 when, during an interfaith meeting, he offered his views on how different religions fit together, focused toward a single God (YouTube Video of Speech here)…

“They are like different languages in order to arrive at God, but God is God for all. Since God is God for all, then we are all children of God… There’s only one God, and each of us has a language to arrive at God. Some are Sheik, Muslim, Hindu, Christian, and they are different paths [to God].”

Christian Universalism is just another version of “Anonymous Christianity”, a concept by Karl Rahner, a Jesuit theologian, put forth earlier in this century (details here). Note how closely the Pope’s comments align with the definitions of Christian Universalism offered above? Further, reflect on what the precursor of a New One World Religion would look like as we consider End-Times prophesy.

The Truth of the Gospel as Defined by God in the Bible remains…

“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” – Matthew 7:13-14
