Christian Persecution expressed in Angry Words

How should Biblical Christians respond to the reality that we remain sinners in the hands of a loving God?

Below is an extreme response from a Facebook responder to our ministry, and Biblical Christians in general.

“Your religion is a rape cult. You raise women and children to accept being brutalized by men with threats of hell if they don’t submit to the abuse then you pimp them out to men who pay tithes. We know what your world view is, for 2000 years you all have been engaged in non-stop rape, pedophilia, theft, human trafficking, forced conversions, child marriage, genocide and terrorism. You force little girls to be broodmares for pedophiles so you can sell babies to people who will beat them into being tithe-payers. 93% of convicted sex offenders describe themselves as being religious (predominantly Christian). You want to take birth control away from women so you can breed them like less than livestock. I say less than because the Bible forbids the rape of farm animals. The sickos who wrote your book see women and children as [expletive removed] to abuse and exploit. We know you by your fruits.”

What perhaps adds to the significance of this rant is that it comes from an individual who states they are a “former evangelical pastor.”

Biblical Christians are sinners and consequently hypocrites when we offer Biblical advice on “What would Jesus do.” We all have read of Christian men who “brutalize children,” “abuse tithes offered to the church,” are “pedophiles, thieves, sex offenders,” and exhibit all manner of bad behavior. Sadly, many who say they are Christians are not saved. Further, born-again believers are not at all immune from sin. Paul was the poster child for one used by God, yet even he lamented …

Romans 7:20-24 – Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

So, is this responder wrong in her assessment? Sadly, in general, no. What she misses is that these practices are not limited to any race, culture, or religion. We all face a range of evil behavior in a sin-cursed world. However, born-again believers are not of this world. While we remain in this foreign land, we have a Counselor that is ready, willing, and able to blunt our sin nature, keeping us focused on the Lord and His Word. When confronted with those irrationally angry with us as uniquely unworthy, we need to respond with love, acknowledging our flaws but promoting God’s grace in the process.
