Build Your House on the Rock

Parable on the basis of our faith and hope in the provisions God has made for those who accept Christ as Lord and Savior.

Parable on the basis of our faith and hope in the provisions God has made for those who accept Christ as Lord and Savior.
Matthew 7:24-27 Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

Question: What does the house represent?

Answer: Our Biblical Christian theological underpinnings.

Question: What do the rain, floods, and winds represent?

Answer: The storms of life.

Question: What do the foundation and rock represent?

Answer: The Bible and the Trinity.

Question: What does the sand represent?

Answer: At best, a weak faith (spiritual milk) rather than mature faith (solid food) based on verses such as 1 Corinthians 3:2. At worst, “things of the flesh” (Vernon McGee) with no salvation at all, “and great was the fall of it.” Note the verse directly preceding this parable …

Matthew 7:22-23 - On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Other Supporting Bible Verses

Psalms 62:6 - He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
1 Samuel 2:2 - There is none holy like the LORD: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.
1 Corinthians 10:4 - And all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
