Americans viewing ourselves as World Leaders

Is this the next step in Biblical Christian prophesy?

A new study conducted by the Reagan Institute polled over 1200 U.S. adults asking the broad question of whether Americans are in favor of taking on an increasing role in world leadership. Summary results indicate that over the last two years we have become increasingly comfortable extending our influence beyond our borders.

  • “The preference for American global leadership over a more isolationist approach is on the rise, up from 40% in 2022 to 64%.”
  • “A bipartisan majority of Americans believe U.S. international engagement benefits both America (66%) and the world (67%).”
  • 65% of Democrats, 69% of Republicans, and 73% of MAGA Republicans want the United States to “lead on the international stage.”
  • “Less than a quarter (23%) would prefer the United States be less engaged and react to international events …”

Of course, there are many factors that could be influencing this trend. Certainly, former President Biden was not considered by most Americans as an example of a global leader. Trump, on the other hand, regardless of one’s political views, has exercised a commanding role, some would say as a bully, in international affairs.

A Biblical Christian Perspective

What remains to be seen is how the trade wars, Ukraine, Gaza, China, Russia, and other world leaders and events will play out relative to American power and influence. However, as Christians, we remain attuned to the Bible as a filter for what will eventually come to pass.

What we do know is that there will be, at some future point, labor-pains (1 Thessalonians 5:3), and ultimately a convergence of worldwide power under the control of evil, both in the spiritual and earthly realm. It will take the form of a totalitarian world government controlled by a single individual, supported by a single religion and a single currency (details here).

We are called to keep our lamps full (Luke 12:35) and be watchful (Matthew 24:42), for there will be a time when all these things will come to pass (Matthew 23:36).

Matthew 24:44 – Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Luke 21:36 – But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.

Are we in the end-times spoken of in Scripture? No one can say for sure (Matthew 25:13), but since we cannot predict when each of us will pass from one life to the next, does it really matter?

2 Corinthians 6:2b – Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
