After Years of Debate, Theologians Now Agree That Lying…

To Your Dentist About Flossing Is Not A Sin

Words of Wisdom from the Babylon Bee – Human nature and, in particular, our sin of pride, is constantly provoking us to compare ourselves to others. Are we faster, smarter, richer, more caring, more loving than those around us? Further, when we evaluate our bad behavior, the same standards of comparison apply. Are our sins less significant than others? Is lying to the dentist less of a sin than burning Teslas because we think Musk is evil? Is a white lie spoken to encourage someone acceptable, compared to making up a resume for a job needed to feed our family?

Of course, as Christians, we know the answer …

2 Corinthians 10:12 – Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.

Our model of behavior should be compared to Christ, who lived a perfect life on earth and died for our sins. As believers, we need to take the log out of our eye to see clearly the speck in our brother’s eye (Matthew 7:3-5).

Further, from God’s perspective …

Romans 3:23 – All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Perhaps some sins (1 Corinthians 6:18) and sinners (James 3:1) are worse than others. However, from an eternal perspective those differences are irrelevant. The worst behavior one can exhibit in their lifetime will be forgiven under the grace of our Lord through the sacrifice of His Son on the Cross. And the least white lie, spoken only once in one’s lifetime, without having a personal relationship with our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, will result in eternal separation from a loving and gracious God. We may not agree with God’s views regarding sin, however, rejecting His righteousness and authority will not make any difference upon our death.

Romans 9:20 – But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?”
