Listen to Jesus, not the world.

Take whatever is on your mind to Him, and give Him time to speak to your heart.

With a Subtitle: Take whatever is on your mind to Him, and give Him time to speak to your heart.

A brief Excerpt: The verse from Luke 24:5-6 reminds us not to seek the living among the dead. In our Christian walk, we should seek Jesus for guidance and solutions, rather than relying on worldly ways or others. Take your concerns to Him, listen to His Word, and bring life to your situations.

Scripture

Our verse for today comes from Luke 24:5-6, ” Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, ‘Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee.’ “

Background

Today’s superstores certainly have changed the way we shop. There was a time when a grocery store sold only groceries, and Target and Walmart weren’t so big that you needed a taxi to get from one end to the other. These days, one-stop shopping has replaced much of the need to go to several places to get your necessities. The local drugstore or family hardware store seems to be going the way of the rotary phone and the full-service gas station. But even in this era of do-it-all mega-stores, you still can’t get everything you need there, and what you find many times is not the quality that the specialized stores will have. So if you head to Target looking for your building supplies or go to Walmart to buy your wedding gown, you will be sorely disappointed. You still need to go to the right place for the right thing. But do we understand this in our Christian walk? Do we believe that how the world solves its problems is not the way that we are meant to solve ours? Do you take your issues and concerns to the Lord, or are there other ways you are trying to meet those needs? Is Jesus big enough for the needy in Asia or some remote tribe in Africa but too small to help you stop worrying?

Application

Do you get lonely or wonder why your life is going the way it is? Does that push you toward the TV and the internet, or does it compel you to reach out to someone so the two of you might heal together? Maybe you do bring it all to Jesus, but all you bring is complaints and second-guessing. Where is the thanksgiving and the confession? Where is the listening and the responding? We hear those around us, telling us what to do and why we should do it, as if seeking the living among the dead. But maybe it’s time to listen to the One inside you, to remember the One whose spoken Word is probably a few feet from you right now. Maybe it’s time to forgive. Or maybe apologize. Maybe you should give, or perhaps just keep quiet sometimes. Whatever it is, do it and bring life to your dead situation.

Charge

As we seek Him today, thank God that today is a new day. Take whatever is on your mind to Him, and give Him time to speak to your heart. Remember how He spoke when He was in Galilee, and decide to listen to Him.
