Scripture

Our verse for today comes from Revelation 19:7, “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”

Background

When you got up this morning to go to work or school or just to run errands, I dare say you did a fair amount of primping and getting ready. Taking a shower, fixing your hair, brushing your teeth, and putting on clean clothes are all a normal part of getting ready to go where we need to be. Now, on that special day of your wedding, it’s safe to say that slightly more was involved to get ready for that occasion. Brides usually have extra helpers just to fix their hair and get their gown on just right. And no detail is too small or gets overlooked. On my special day, I even shaved twice before I headed over to the church. Having everything taken care of and making sure that you were ready left only the anticipation and sheer joy that came with the celebration of the wedding. There was nothing left to worry about, nothing yet to do, and nothing that wasn’t ready. But it didn’t happen all by itself. The flowers, the cake, the reception, and the invitations all needed to be attended to. Once the couple got engaged, all focus turned towards the wedding. The bride wanted to make sure that that day was perfect.

Application

Now, if we see Jesus standing at the end of the aisle, waiting for us, His bride—how ready could we say we are? We are engaged to live forever with our Savior, but how ready are we to begin that life? Now, if you’ve been engaged for a while, you might think that everything is done and you’re ready for the wedding. You might even have lost some of that anticipation and excitement over time. But Jesus has a remedy for that. He says to look on Him. In her mind’s eye, the bride never stops envisioning being with her groom. When we see Jesus, when we look on His holiness, His purity, His grace and forgiveness fan the flame that was started at the engagement. When we focus on Him and His majesty, it gets us ready for the marriage. The bride doesn’t adorn herself for the mirror. She adorns herself for her bridegroom.

Charge

As we seek Him today, ask yourself if you are getting ready for the marriage of the Lamb. Ask God to reignite your passion and excitement for the groom. Turn your focus on Him, and let Him see you as beautiful.
