7 Things To Say When Called On In Bible Class:

When You Weren’t Paying Attention

Subtitle: When You Weren’t Paying Attention

Excerpt: The article emphasizes active Bible study participation as worship, humility, and obedience, encouraging deeper engagement with God’s Word.

Words of Wisdom from the Babylon Bee – As always the Babylon Bee has some very funny responses in their list of seven. For me, the best was, “Whoa, look out the window! Is that a Nephilim?”

Of course the deeper question is, are you listening and engaging during your small group Bible study, or are you just there for fellowship with like-minded believers?

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom ... - Colossians 3:16a

Bible studies, whether in the form of a group home fellowship, Wednesday or Sunday night service, or traditional adult Sunday School, provide an opportunity to not only interact with other like-minded believers but also to deepen your understanding of God (2 Peter 3:18). Teachers of these Bible studies have invested their time in preparing and presenting God’s Word (Titus 2:7-8). We need to be more than seat warmers but active participants, learning together.

Finally, paying attention in a Bible study is an act of worship, humility, and obedience. It reflects a heart that says, “Speak, Lord, for your servant hears” (1 Samuel 3:10).

Worship: Paying attention in Bible study is a way to honor God because it shows that we see His Word as holy and worthy of our full attention. It also shows that we know He is speaking, not just a human teacher.

Humility: A heart that is willing to learn listens carefully to what others have to say instead of relying on its own understanding.

Obedience: To truly understand God’s commands and use them in everyday life, one needs to pay close attention.
