Theology on the Lighter Side – Why didn’t they let Jesus in the jewelry store? – Because they were afraid He’d break every chain!
Zach Williams came out with a song in 2016 entitled, “Chain Breaker.” The chorus of that song is …
If you’ve got pain, He’s a pain taker
If you feel lost, He’s a way maker
If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior
If you got chains, He’s a chain breaker
The concept of Jesus as our “Chain Breaker” comes from verses such as Isaiah 61:1-2 and John 8:31-36. We are bound by the chains of our personal sin nature and the often inevitable influences of the evil one. These chains are literally broken when we enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ, accepting Him as our Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit enters our lives as our Counselor and, though sin and the need for repentance remains, for the first time we have the power to resist it.
Jesus was, and is, the only one who can break the chains of sin in your life, while God, in His grace, forgives all your past, present, and even future offenses.
