A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – There is a big difference between “convicting” and “condemning.” Webster defines these two words as:

Convicting – “To convince of error or sinfulness.”

Condemning – “To declare to be reprehensible, wrong, or evil usually after weighing evidence and without reservation.”

To the Saved…

To the born-again Christian, God convicts us of our sins as we grow in our relationship with Him. The Holy Spirit, as our Counselor, reminds us of our sinful nature and draws us to repentance when we do wrong. This is why a mournful Paul lamented:

Romans 7:22-24 – For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

The answer to Paul’s plea, and ours, is the next verse…

Romans 7:25 – Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

2 Corinthians 7:9-10 – As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting…. For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.

To the Lost…

The unsaved, however, sadly receive condemnation. Payment for sins committed during earthly life result in eternal separation from a Holy God.

Matthew 25:41 – Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”

The Decision

To follow Christ or not to follow Christ. To ask that He come into your life and save you from the punishment of your sins, and become your Lord and Savior, is the most important decision one can make in this life as we prepare for eternity.

Romans 8:1 – There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Salvation – Eternal Life in Less Than 150 Words
